South Delhi Municipal Corporation carries out sanitation drive in Delhi

SDMC has been carrying out special sanitation drives in localities under its jurisdiction. These drives are part of a fortnight-long 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' programme. The basic aim of concentrating on sanitation drives is to turn the city into a garbage-free and clean habitat as per the essence of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Intensive sanitation drives were carried out in 51 markets situated in the Central, South and West zones. Traders in large numbers, citizens and Safai Karamcharis joined hands in clearing waste from roads and open areas. They also spread awareness on swachhta and the message against use of plastic bags.

A number of councilors were also present on the occasion. The traders were told that they will be benefitted by the footfall of more customers after the markets become clean and beautiful. This will also help in the expansion of their trade.

The drives were organised in Lajpat Nagar, Meharchand Market, Lodhi Road, Jangpura Market, Bhogal Market and Nehru Place Market under Central Zone; G Block Hauz Khas Market, Fruit Market Malviya Nagar, Nanakpura Market, and RK Puram etc. under South Zone; Janak Block Market, F Block Market Vikas Puri, Tilak Nagar Market, and Ganesh Nagar Market etc. under West Zone. During these drives street plays and rallies were also organised.

The special drives were also organised at five places wherein hundreds of citizens and sanitation employees helped in making their localities clean.
