According to the police, Satpute, who had been dating the victim for about ten months, stopped by the victim's house in Ramabai Nagar of Bhandup on Thursday. He said he wanted to go for Diwali shopping with her at a mall in Thane. The victim refused to accompany him which angered Satpute. He asked for an explanation and she said it would not look good to be seen together in public. Enraged by her reply, Satpute left her house without speaking to her.
A few hours later, close to midnight, Satpute, who was said to be in a disturbed state, knocked on the victim's door. According to the police, when the victim opened the door, Satpute demanded an explanation from her for refusing to accompany him for shopping. "Unfortunately, the victim's reply was followed by Satpute's assault and he flashed out a blade from his pocket and slashed her throat. Following this attack, Satpute fled the spot,"said senior police inspector of Bhandup police station, Ramesh Khade.
"The victim's father and neighbours immediately rushed her to the hospital and approached the police to register a case against Satpute. After a four-hour search, Satpute was caught near Thane railway station and was booked for attempting to murder his lover. Satpute was produced in the metropolitan court on Friday and was remanded to police custody until November 14," Khade added.
